Specialty Medications

Specialty medications are typically bio-engineered and have specific shipping and handling requirements or are required to be dispensed by a specific facility. PEHP has partnered with Accredo to assist in dispensing most specialty drugs.

Obtaining specialty drugs from Accredo or a contracted speciality vendor will ensure that our members receive their maximum benefit. Also, PEHP may require some specialty medications to be obtained from Accredo.

Accredo will coordinate with your office to provide delivery either to the member's home or to your office.

Specialty medications may require pre-authorization. Check the Pre-authorization list or call PEHP at 801-366-7555 or 800-765-7347 to see if the medication does.

Using Accredo is easy. Choose one of the options below:

Option 1 - Members Call Accredo

Step 1: Find out if the medication requires pre-authorization. If it does, the member will contact your office so that you can obtain one. (See the Pre-authorization list section for details.)
Step 2: If required, once the pre-authorization is approved, call Accredo at
1-800-501-7260 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Mountain Time, Monday through Friday.
Step 3: Accredo will contact the provider's office and make all the arrangements.
Step 4: Accredo will call the member back to arrange delivery.

Option 2 - Provider calls Accredo

Step 1: With the member ID number providers can call Accredo at 1-800-987-4904.
Step 2: Accredo will contact your office to arrange delivery.

The table below shows where certain specialty medications can be obtained. Specific medications may be required through Accredo. Obtaining medications through Accredo or PEHP's approved Home Health Providers will allow PEHP members to receive the lowest cost maximum benefit available to them.

For contact information for specialty vendors other than Accredo, call PEHP at 801-366-7555 or 800-765-7347.

* Requires Pre-authorization.
